Cube Galleries

Fall 2014

Individual Project

Instructor - Annicia Streete

The development of two galleries was established by the breakdown of a cube by play on mass & void; solid & transparent. The voids articulate circulation paths, existing site conditions, and daylighting. An angled framework was used anong with contextual site information to influence voids and programmatic space within. The first cube is articulated through a projection of the plan shown on each floor. As the oculus, created by the floor plates, manipulates the daylight; a stongly defined, daylight driven projection is apparent on the ground floor, mimicking a projection lense. The same framework that was established on one cube, now imposes itself onto an existing building. Projections are displayed from within the cube, onto the existing interior building walls. The framework is articulated in the tensile members that hold the floor of the cube, interrupting the projections so that the framework is also read on the existing structure.
